Safety

How we keep you safe in the mountains

Mountain trips carry real risks: altitude, cold and roads that close. This page sets out how we handle each one, so you can decide before you book.

Acute mountain sickness (AMS)

AMS can affect anyone at altitude, whatever their fitness. Itineraries climb gradually, and the trip leader asks every traveller about headache, nausea, sleep and appetite each day. If symptoms get worse, we do not go higher.

Vehicles and roads

The trip leader decides each morning whether a road is safe to drive, and that call overrides the itinerary. On winter routes we keep buffer time rather than drive through snow.

Cold

On winter trips stays are heated, and the packing list on each trip page is part of the safety plan, not a suggestion.
